Every kid loves a tree house.....but Patrick Dougherty 's are something else!!!

I just found this amazing designer and artist, Patrick Dougherty who sculpts these 'tree houses' out of branches and saplings, he began by learning about primitive building techniques and as you can see now he is producing sculptures on a massive scale.  He's made over 200 of these huge sculptures, all over the world.

This would definitely be any kid (and adults) dream of a tree house!!
This first one is my favorite, its like a secret fort, takes you back to your childhood.

 

Working while on holiday is just toooo hard!

I'm in America at the moment and I've got a ton of work to get done for uni while im here.  The motivation just isnt happening though, the weather is hot and there are loads of things i'd rather be doing.  However I managed to produce a few images of what I might use my patterns for, I've got loads more to do, but like I said, i'm on holiday so it's so much harder to get stuff done.

A new route with my designs

So a couple of weeks ago I became pretty stuck with my designing and basically just messed around on photoshop for a couple of days, I completely lost enthusiasm for the project.  Then I magically came up with these and they work really really well when I laser cut them.  I'll try and get some photos up of how I plan to use them in the end as part of a piece of clothing, but here are my newest designs.

I know its been a while....

Its been a month since my last post, so I feel im neglecting my blog a little.  My work's progressed but I'm in a bit of a slump at the moment in that I haven't got a clue where to go next.  My teacher is telling me one thing and I'm just not feeling it.  I'm in uni at the moment so can't upload my most recent work, but it's supposed to look a little like Tord Boontje's garland lighting (below), but using my own designs.


I've produced some more designs, but like I said, I'm not sure where to go next.

A little elvish fun

I've ran out of vine photos to work from and seeing as though I was focusing on the Elves for my first fabric I had a look at some jewellery in an elven style and had a go at some drawings.  I'm so pleased with how they've turned out, just need to figure out how to make a fabric from the motifs that will fit in with the fashion.  I'm not sure people would wear clothes with these prints on, but I'm always up for a challenge....

What do you think? Is it possible to use such designs in todays fashion, or am I out of my league?

 

I also had a look at plaiting and knotting, need to get my hands on some good quality yarns, but drawing them is quite interesting, because I havn't seen it done before.

The Epic journey that is my new project.....

So here it is, the beginning of this terms project.

As you know from my previous post I'm basing it on Lord of the Rings (our theme is journeys) and I've started off with just some simple drawings that link in with the elves.  I'm going to base at least one of the end pieces on Rivendell (where the elves live for those of you who havn't seen the film).

This is only the beginning so things aren't mind blowing yet, but i'll keep you posted on my progress.
